What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear aligners to correct the alignment of the teeth and improve the appearance of the smile.
Using clear aligners instead of metal wires and brackets allows orthodontic patients to feel confident as their bite issues are corrected.
Invisalign aligners are also removable while eating, freeing Invisalign patients of many of the food restrictions placed on traditional braces wearers.
What Is the Treatment Process for Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment begins with creating a treatment plan based on the unique needs and desired outcome of the patient. A series of aligners are then fabricated based on the treatment plan to gradually correct the position of the teeth.
Once the aligners are ready, they will need to be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day and each set of aligners will need to be worn for one to two weeks until the teeth reach their desired position.
Are Invisalign Aligners Comfortable?
Invisalign aligners are comfortable, especially when compared to traditional metal braces. Aligners are made of smooth plastic and can be easily removed for brushing and flossing the teeth as well as eating. This makes them very comfortable and easy to wear throughout the treatment process.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
The total length of time needed to complete Invisalign treatment is different based on the needs of each patient.
Those with mild alignment issues may be able to complete their treatment in six months while those with more moderate issues may require 12 months or longer.
Who Are Good Candidates for Invisalign?
Many people wishing to straighten their teeth make excellent candidates for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign can discreetly correct mild to complex bite issues in both teens and adults, allowing them to avoid the embarrassment metal braces sometimes bring.
People who are experiencing the following issues may be good candidates for Invisalign:
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps between the teeth
- Other bite issues
How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
The cost of Invisalign will vary depending on the length of treatment as well as the complexity of alignment issues needing to be corrected.
Keeping in mind that final costs vary, in general, the costs of Invisalign are often similar to the costs of traditional orthodontics.
