CEREC uses CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing) software and milling machinery. First, Dr. Dowell prepares the tooth and takes a digital impression. The information is sent electronically to the CEREC unit where Dr. Dowell creates a 3D model of the final crown. He can choose the right shade of white and add grooves and contours for realistic results.
